[SPORTS] Arsenal's Got Their Sight on Adrian for €18m January raid
In a surprising move, Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger makes a early move on for the Athletico Madrid striker Adrian, rather the the usual rush through a deal at the end of the transfer month.
Manager Arsene Wenger has again shown his interest in the 24-year-old
Spain international after failing in a bid to capture him in the summer.
Adrian is an orthodox striker, who has the versatility to play anywhere
across the front three, and has a proven scoring record at club and age-group
level for the Spanish national team.
He won the Golden Boot at the 2011 European Under-21 championship, scoring five goals for the tournament winners, and followed that up with 18 goals for Atleti last season, including 10 strikes in the Europa League en route to winning the trophy.
Adrian also scored on his international debut in Spain’s 2-0 friendly win over Serbia in May and, after missing out on Euro 2012 selection, he figured in the Spain squad that exited the Olympics at the group stage.
Arsenal fans are encouraged by the knowledge that Adrian has a €18 million release clause in his contract.

Real Madrid signs Chelsea midfielder Essien on season-long loan
Real Madrid has completed the shock signing of Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien on a year-long loan deal.
The Ghanaian will link up with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Santiago Bernabeu after being made surplus to requirements under Roberto Di Matteo.
Essien's arrival in Madrid will facilitate Lassana Diarra's proposed move to Anzhi Makhachkhala before the Russian transfer deadline passes on Thursday.
The 29-year-old made only 14 appearances for the European champions last term after recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in January, consequently losing his first-team place to John Obi Mikel and Raul Meireles under Andre Villas-Boas and later Di Matteo.

Roman Abramovich Wins The Biggest Private Court Case In History at $6.5 Billion
The Chelsea FC owner, one of the richest and most private men in the world, was accused of black-mailing Boris Berezovsky into selling his interests in the oil company and aluminium conglomerate they founded together at a knock-down price.
Mr Abramovich in turn, accused Mr Berezovsky of extorting money from him for political influence and claimed he had paid him $1.3bn to buy his freedom when Mr Berezovsky fell out of favour with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
In a year-long case that became highly personal, one of Mr Abramovich’s associates even accused Mr Berezovsky of sending a threatening text message to a potential witness, signed “Dr Evil”, the pantomime villain from the James Bond spoof films, Austin Powers. The message was never produced.
Mr Abramovich’s lawyers also accused Mr Berezovsky of “truly prodigious powers of self-deception” and giving evidence coloured by his “vanity and his self-obsession.”
They claimed that Mr Berezovksy was an “angry and embittered man” of “remarkable vanity and self-importance” which was “aggravated by a highly personal resentment of Mr Abramovich.”
“Large parts of his evidence can only be described as mendacious and dishonest,” they said in submissions to the court.
“He believes that Mr Abramovich has supplanted him in a position which is rightfully his and that he has acquired a sort of political influence under President Putin which he once enjoyed under a very different regime of Boris Yeltsin.”
Mr Berezovsky was once a “classic power broker” and one of the most influential oligarchs in Russia but the relationship was founded on krysha - political protection – and “the activities of a krysha or protector are inherently corrupt,” Jonathan Sumption QC, for Mr Abramovich, said in a written statement.
Mr Berezovsky "thought he had personally created Mr Abramovich out of nothing and put him in a position where he had only to sit there for vast sums of money to flow into his lap,” he added.
Laurence Rabinowitz QC, for Mr Berezovsky, had told the court that the two men had worked together during the Russian privatisation sales in the mid-1990s that followed the fall of communism to acquire an asset that would make them “wealthy beyond the wildest dreams of most people.”
In the process they “became and remained good friends” he said, but they fell out when Mr Berezovsky, who had adopted a high political profile in Russia through his control of a television station called ORT, fell foul of the Kremlin and was forced to leave the country and seek asylum in Britain.
The television channel had run a number of stories criticising Mr Putin for the failure to rescue 118 Russian sailors from the sunken nuclear submarine, the Kursk.
That, he said left Mr Abramovich in a position where he was “in effect required to make a choice - to remain loyal to Mr Berezovsky, his friend and mentor and the person to whom he owed his newly acquired great fortune, or instead, as we submit, to betray Mr Berezovsky and to seek to profit from his difficulties.”
“It is our case that Mr Abramovich at that point demonstrated that he was a man to whom wealth and influence mattered more than friendship and loyalty and this has led him, finally, to go so far as to even deny that he and Mr Berezovsky were actually ever friends,” he added.
The case rested on a number of key meetings at the end of 2000 in which the two men and a third partner, Badri Patarkatsishvili, a Georgian businessman who died at his Surrey mansion three years ago from a heart attack, discussed transferring their assets to the West.
Security men working for Mr Patarkatsishvili secretly recorded the first meeting at Le Bourget airport near Paris and Mr Berezovsky later bought the tape for $50m.
At the second meeting, at Mr Berezovsky’s chateau near Cap D’Antibes in France, Berezovsky claimed that Mr Abramovich told him the Kremlin would remove his TV station from him if he did not sell it and prevent the release from jail of a close friend of Mr Berezovsky.
Mr Abramovich claimed there was no such meeting and the pair actually met at the French ski resort of Megeve a few weeks later and agreed to a $1.3bn pay-off.
In a last snub to Mr Berezovsky, Mr Abramovich allegedly sold his 25 per cent share of the company Rusal, the Aluminium conglomerate, for £1bn, to Oleg Deripaska, an oligarch with ties to both George Osborne, the shadow chancellor and Peter Mandelson, the former Labour spin doctor.
The sale meant Mr Deripaska owned 75 per cent of the company and Mr Berezovsky and his partner were forced to accept just £289m for the remaining 25 per cent.

ARSENAL YET TO GET A WIN as it ends goalless in the britannia stadium
Arsenal yet to get a win as It's all over at the Britannia Stadium and it's finished goalless between Stoke and Arsenal. The Gunners perhaps had the better chances but they couldn't find a way through the Potters defence and Begovic. Arsenal’s new recruit Santi Cazorla has expressed disappointment at the departures of Robin Van Persie and Alex Song but is hopeful that replacements would be brought in.
The Spain international made his Arsenal debut last weekend against Sunderland and was one of the outstanding performers for the Gunners. The former Malaga playmaker provided Olivier Giroud with a neat pass to score the winner but the Frenchman miscued his shot wide of the target. Arsene Wenger has urged the fans not to panic as he believes the London club has dealt with departures of star players in the past.
Cazorla said in the Daily Mirror: “It’s clear that Van Persie is a great player and obviously we would all have preferred it if he had stayed. Song has gone as well and there are still 10 days left in the transfer market.”
“I do not know if we will sign anyone but obviously it’s important to replace players like that because they were so important for the team.”
He said: “It felt really good making my debut. Of course, it was not the result any of us wanted, but we had chances and we did well.
“It’s a long season, so we can build on this. I had one chance and so did a few of my colleagues and that was the key to the game. We had complete control but that final step just eluded us.”

Arsenal Handed Wilshere Fitness Boost
Arsenal have been handed a timely injury boost with the news that Jack Wilshere is set to return to full training ahead of schedule, according to the Mirror.
There were fears Wilshere may not be back until November at the earliest following his year-long lay-off, and reports last week suggested Arsene Wenger had claimed he would be happy if the 20-year-old was back before Christmas!
However, it appears those comments were made just to ease the pressure on Wilshere and Arsene didn’t want to publicly set any unrealistic comeback dates. John Cross at the Mirror now claims Jack is making good progress recently, he’s back running normally and got through a rigorous training regime of fitness work last week.
If all goes well, themidfielderr will be back in full training in four weeks time and should resume first team duties in early October.
Wenger showed the amount of faith he has in the youngster by handing him the famous No.10 shirt last week following the sale of Robin van Persie, and I certainly can not wait for him to be back playing for TheArsenall.
If the Mirror are accurate and Wilshere could be back in action within weeks, that’s great, but let’s be overly cautious with him. The last thing we need is another set back.

Manchester United’sseasonn got off to a bad start as the Reds succumbed 1-0 to Everton at Goodison Park. Marouane Fellaini headed the winner after 57 minutes and not even the introduction of new signing Robin Van Persie with 23 minutes toplayy was enough to give United a way back into the contest.
Despite all the talk being about Van Persie since he joined from Arsenal in a £24m move, the Dutchman started on the bench as Sir Alex Ferguson chose Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney up front, supported by amidfieldd comprising Paul Scholes, Tom Cleverley, Nani and debutant Shinij Kagawa.
Valencia and Carrick were makeshift defenders in a back four completed by Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra. Everton started brightly, outmuscling United inmidfieldd and coming close with Fellaini and Jelavic. The former shrugged off Carrick down the left flank before rattling De Gea’s near post, the latter forced a good save from the Spaniard.
United’s reply was in a well struck freekick from Rooney that was palmed away by Tim Howard, before Nani’s effort whistled away from the post. With 32 minutes gone Pienaar forced an excellent save from De Gea with a curling effort, before Rooney saw his effort well parried by Howard at the other end. United’s midfield looked good goingforwardd but suffered Everton’s size and strength and De Gea was superb again to deny Osman and Baines just before halftime.
Everton started the second half on the front foot with Pienaar rattling the bar after a flick on from Fellaini. The Belgian then climbed above Michael Carrick to net thewinnerr after yet again exposing United’s lack of physicality at the back. Everton then basically gave up playing, inviting United on but the Reds could only muster one clear chance as Cleverley’s effort was cleared by Jagielka and not even the introduction of Van Persie, Young and Anderson for Welbeck, Nani – at his frustrating best – and Cleverley could change the tide.
